The Civil Court on Sunday issued an order of a stay of execution on Azima's sentence until a decision is taken on the review.
The Civil Court has issued a stay order to postpone the sentence hearing against former Attorney General Azima Shakoor to pay MVR 4.1 million to the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB).
Last month, the Civil Court had ordered Azima to pay MVR 4.1 million to MIB for the failure of loan repayment. Azima's lawyer had then filed an application in the Civil Court to review the judgment.
The Civil Court on Sunday, February 4, issued an order to stay the execution of the judgment until a decision is taken on the review.
According to the Civil Procedure Code, there is an opportunity to apply to the court that decided the case to review the verdicts in absentia.
Azima had earlier said that the ruling came while she was in discussion with the bank to restructure the loan.
