Criminal Court sentences man stealing several boxes of cigarettes from a shop to seven months in jail.
Ahmed Arif from Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi was taken to court after breaking and entering a shop in Male' in 2019 and stealing 14 boxes of cigarettes in addition to MVR 450 (USD 29.27).
The state had pressed three charges against him relating to this incident; stealing, breaking and entering the shop and damaging goods and property, in addition to entering a prohibited place.
He pleaded guilty to all three charges in court. The court made the ruling on October 19.
Since he confessed, he was sentenced to four months and 24 days in jail for stealing, two months and 12 days for entering a prohibited place, and nine days for the charge of damaging goods and property.
