Maldives Police Service on Thursday morning announced that three suspects were arrested over the recent act of violence against three foreign nationals in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
Police had formerly revealed that the perpetrators were two helmet-clad individuals on a motorcycle, who assaulted the victims, two Chinese nationals and an Australian, with a knife near the Hulhumale Redbull Park Futsal Ground.
According to Police, authorities are continuously monitoring the status of the victims and they are all in stable condition.
On Thursday night, a suspected group of extremists uploaded a video to social media taking responsibility for the attacks. A mask-clad man speaks to the camera in Dhivehi, the local language, while subtitles appear at the bottom of the video in English.
"As for what will follow (of attacks), you fail to perceive where and when it will take place", threatens the individual speaking in the video.
The video labels the country's leaders as apostates and accused them of deceiving the masses and snatching away the wives and children of extremists, declaring that the perpetrators targeted the state's vulnerability as retribution.
Police noted that they were currently establishing the validity of this video.
Moreover, Police stated that they were working closely with relevant authorities in investigating the heinous crime and assured the public of the institution's efforts to ensure the safety and security of the country.
