An emergency motion has been submitted in Parliament today to bring the issue of water supply service interruptions of the connected islands in Addu City, to the government's attention.
The first emergency motion of the new parliament was submitted by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP Ibrahim Nazil, representing South Hithadhoo, Addu City. The parliament, where the ruling party, People's National Congress (PNC) holds a supermajority, voted to accept the motion.
The government has awarded the project to improve the water supply system in Addu City to Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

MP Nazil's motion alleges that the water supply service provided by Fenaka Corporation to the islands in Addu City has been disrupted, causing significant distress to the residents.
MP Nazil stated that prolonged delays without a solution is causing drastic losses to both businesses and individuals.
Speaking on the issue of frequent water supply disconnections, Fenaka previously stated that the water supply in Addu City has deteriorated due to inadequate repairs and a lack of upgrades to the water supply system over the past five years.
Fenaka stated that the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development has awarded a project to upgrade the water system in Addu City to Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), in collaboration with the relevant government agencies.
The project aims to provide a permanent solution to the water supply shortage in Addu City, and the company is already working to ensure uninterrupted service, Fenaka said.
