Police urges to exercise caution while traveling due to bad weather

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has further extended the Orange Warning from Lhaviyani Atoll, located in northern Maldives, to Vaavu Atoll in central Maldives until 16:00 hrs today.

With the southwest monsoon (Hulhan'gu) intensifying across all regions of the country, Maldives Police Service has called on the public to exercise caution while traveling during bad weather.

In a post on social media platform X, police said that travelling by sea is highly discouraged unless absolutely necessary and must be done with all safety measures in place. They also advise against traveling in small vessels.

Police also advised against traveling to uninhabited islands and sandbanks during this time and cautioned against swimming in the ocean.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has further extended the Orange Warning from Lhaviyani Atoll, located in northern Maldives, to Vaavu Atoll in central Maldives until 16:00 hrs today.

These regions are expected to experience heavy rain, strong winds of 34-40 miles per hour and gust winds of 60 miles per hour with very rough seas.
