The Maldives government has formulated the policy of using credit cards in state offices and agencies, which was gazetted and put into immediate effect by the Ministry of Finance on Sunday.
The policy was formulated to enable government offices and agencies to make online transactions, especially in situations where it is the only available payment method.
The policy also provides a guideline for state bodies on how to proceed when making transactions using credit cards for budgeted expenditures and expenses permitted by the Public Finance Regulation.
Government offices and other state agencies that wish to acquire credit cards must submit the relevant application form to the Ministry of Finance.
The policy sets out guidelines on how the government agencies should use the credit cards, the parties authorised to make payments, the permitted transactions, and punitive measures for violations.
