Medtech Maldives, on Monday, introduced COVID-19 antigen test cards which delivers test results within 15 minutes without any additional equipment.
According to the company, the newly introduced ‘BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card’, manufactured by Abbott pharmaceuticals in the United States, will be helpful in implementing the state-adopted policies to ensure the protection of public health.
Clinical studies place the sensitivity of the credit-card-sized tests at 97 percent, while their specificity in identifying infections scores 98.5 percent.
This rapid-result test kits will allow for suspected cases to be tested immediately, in addition to conducting further testing for individuals identified through contact tracing as well as generally testing a large portion of the population with ease.
Citing Abbott, Medtech Maldives, which is the authorised distributor for the product, stated that the antigen cards are currently being used in several countries in Europe and America and preparations are underway to ship millions of test kits to more countries.
The ‘BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card’ was introduced to facilitate testing for large groups of people within a short period of time, with minimal cost. Along with the antigen cards, Abbott also launched a mobile application which shows the test results on smartphones.
Abbott aims to conduct at least 50 million COVID-19 tests per month with the newly introduced test kits.
