The no-confidence motion against Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has been placed on the agenda for Sunday's parliamentary sitting.

The agenda for Sunday's sitting published by the Parliament Secretariat only has the matter of no-confidence tabled as a point of action.

As per Parliament Regulations, a sitting has to be held at the end of 14 days notice from when the no confidence motion is submitted. As regular parliament sessions are not held on Sunday, the Secretariat has given prior notice to members this week about the upcoming sitting.

MDP, meanwhile, has alleged that The Democrats plan to obstruct the no confidence motion, saying that Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla may not attend Sunday's sitting.

According to the regulations, the Deputy Speaker must preside over a meeting where a motion on the Speaker's no-confidence is being addressed. The regulation does not specify actions to take in the instance the Deputy Speaker fails to attend.

This was one of the reasons for the delays in the previous no-confidence motion submitted against Nasheed. At that time, they included a motion to remove Eva as well. This led to both Nasheed and Eva refusing to preside over meetings. The motions were later withdrawn.

Eva has not been attending parliament sittings since Monday this week, with Mihaaru citing that she is suffering from 'fever related ailments'.
