On Wednesday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that 465 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives, while 72 recovered from the disease.
Although the number of cases started to drop earlier in April, currently, the figures have been rapidly increasing.
According to the agency, of the new cases, 193 were from the greater Male’ region, 242 cases from residential islands, 25 cases from operational resorts, five liveaboards.
Currently, the island nation records a total of 29,835 virus cases of which 4,404 are active, in addition to 24,775 recoveries and 73 deaths.
On March 12, 2020, WHO classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. To date, the new strain of novel coronavirus has infected over 152 million people and claimed over 3.19 million lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 129 million people have recovered.
