Six more detained following inspection of shops run by expats

The inspections targeted small retail shops run by expatriates as well as four takeaway coffee shops, resulting in the arrest of six expatriates.

Maldives Immigration has arrested six additional individuals following inspections of small shops operated by expatriates in Male' City.

According to a police media official, the inspections targeted small retail shops run by expatriates as well as four takeaway coffee shops, resulting in the arrest of six expatriates. Immigration officials stated that five men and one woman were taken into custody last night.

This operation also included raids on two markets in Male' City, where expatriates operating stalls in the market were detained. Earlier on Monday, authorities arrested a leader of illegal expatriate traders, along with three foreign men and one woman found working illegally at the site.

The government has prioritized efforts to identify undocumented expatriates in the Maldives. Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has affirmed the government's commitment to persist until a permanent solution to the issue of undocumented immigrants is achieved.

In the recent operation alone, Immigration has arrested a total of 70 expatriates.
