Police confirmed on Sunday that a third suspect was arrested in connection to the May 6 terror attack targeted at former President and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Making the announcement via Twitter, Police further appealed to the public to come forth with any information they may have in relation to the attack. A citizen portal has been created and those who forward information are granted full anonymity.

Police also assured that they will continue to share information as the investigation continues.

Pictures circulating social media depict an individual being taken away from Hulhumale earlier in the morning.

Police on Friday, May 7 revealed that four individuals were identified and flagged for "suspicious behaviour" from the crime scene of the explosion.

Less than 24 hours later, two of them, Mujaz Ahmed, 21 and Thahmeen Ahmed, 32 were taken into Police custody.

According to the Police, both of them have past criminal records.

The attack was executed through a remote-controlled homemade IED attached to a motorbike near Nasheed's residence.

The IED was set off as Nasheed was getting into his car. He was taken to ADK with several wounds and required multiple life-saving surgical procedures.

Although the medical team at ADK confirmed that all the procedures were successful, they noted that he has a long recovery ahead.

In addition to Nasheed, four others sustained injuries in the incident.
