Cannabis, tools used for sealing drugs, and a bottle of liquor were recovered from the apartment where the three individuals were at. The court order said that the items recovered from the scene weighed over one kilogram.
Police have arrested three individuals in possession of a large quantity of liquor and drugs. They are charged with alleged possession, use, and trafficking of drugs and alcohol.
Criminal Court remanded the three individuals to judicial custody yesterday.
The police arrested;
1. Ibrahim Haleel , 43, Henveiru Mehelige, Male'
2. Hassan Shafiu, 41, of Galolhu Goidhooge, Male'
3. Ahmed Nazif Niyaz, 31, Maafannu Rubikan, Male'
Criminal Court Justice Ibrahim Zihunee issued a court order stating that the police have submitted substantial evidence to the trial court to prove the alleged crime by the three men. Cannabis, tools used for sealing drugs, and a bottle of liquor were recovered from the apartment where the three individuals were at. The court order said that the items recovered from the scene weighed over one kilogram.
According to the court order, a statement from a police officer who went to the scene, an intelligence report, and a photo report of the scene have also been submitted as evidence.
The Criminal Court remanded Ibrahim Haleel for 30 days. He admitted in court that the drugs found at the scene belonged to him and took responsibility for them.
Haleel told the court that he had a key to the apartment which he used to frequent the place.
The Criminal Court remanded Hassan Shafiu in custody for 20 days.
He told the court that although he smoked hand-rolled cigarettes, the items found at the scene did not belong to him. He added that there were other people at the location at the time, and the place was accessible to others.
"He told the court that the money found in his possession belonged to him and that he was self-employed. He added that equipment used for his work will be in the room and he also earns an income of about MVR 40,000 per month through rent," the court order read.
Nazif, the third individual arrested from the scene, was also remanded in custody for 20 days.
The court order stated that he is an employee of Personal Computers in Male' for 10 years and the money found in his possession was given to him by his office to deposit in the bank.
"He has a serious skin disease and has had it since the age of 15, for which he has also submitted documents," the court order said.
The court order stated that the police have been asked to submit documents related to his medical condition to the medical team and make arrangements if any special assistance is required in view of the situation.
He said at the court that he had waited at the scene to sell a GN motorcycle when the buyer told him he was coming to the apartment.
Police told the court that his urine tests were positive for drugs.
