St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort and Reefscapers Maldives celebrated World Earth Day 2023 by organizing the first-ever local resort and community coral restoration event in the Maldives, in collaboration with Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo Council and Dhaalu atoll School Eco Friends Club.

The event aimed to raise awareness among the youth and the local community about the emerging threats to coral reefs and the importance of protecting the ecosystem in the Maldives.

The event included an awareness session by the resort's marine biologist, Hazel Araujo, for a group of 17 students from Dhaalu atoll School. The students prepared two coral frames with 130 coral fragments, which were then deployed in the house reef of Kudahuvadhoo.

The event also included a beach cleanup activity, where participants collected and disposed of plastic waste to reduce its negative impact on the marine environment.

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort opened in 2016, is 40 minute seaplane ride away from the capital, Malé. Reiterating its commitment to sustainability, the resort has been actively involved in coral propagation and conservation efforts in the Maldives, deploying over 40 coral frames with more than 3,000 coral fragments in the resort's house reef.
