Hoodh wins first round heats and advances to third round in Asian Surfing Championship

National team surfer, Hood Ahmed (Hoobz) has secured a spot in the third round of the ASF Asian Surfing Championships ongoing in Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo located north of capital Male' after emerging the winner in the first round heats.

National team surfer, Hood Ahmed (Hoobz) has secured a spot in the third round of the ASF Asian Surfing Championships ongoing in Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo located north of capital Male' after emerging the winner in the first round heat.

Hoodh today scored 9.16 points against South Korean surfer, Yang Jin-hyuk and Saudi Arabian surfer, Abdulla Al Hazmy during the 12th heat of the first round. Yang had earned 6.86 points while Al Hamzy managed to earn 0.23 points.

Captain of the National Team, Ahmed Agil (Ammadey) and Ismail Miglal (Kuda Issey) also rode the waves during yesterday's first round heats. Both athletes must place amongst the top two surfers in the second round (Refo charge) heats to advance to the third round.

The first ten heats of the Men's Open division took place yesterday evening to commence the Asian Surfing Championship.

Agil secured third place with 8.83 points in the fourth heat, competing against South Korean surfer Kanoa HeeJae Palmiano and Filipino surfer John Mark Tokong. The winner, John Mark Tokong, scored 13.57 points, while HeeJae Palmiano earned 10.07 points.

Meanwhile, Miglal scored 4.97 points in the ninth heat yesterday. Indonesian surfer Pajar Ariana placed first with 13 points, while Filipino surfer Robert 'Remar' Magaluna landed in second place with 7.93 points.

Agil is set to compete against Afghan surfer Kais Hassan Basharia and Singaporean surfer Aniq Kailani Bin Rahmat in the third heat of the second round. Meanwhile, Miglal will face off against Saudi Arabian surfer Abdul Rahman Ali Haidar and Singaporean surfer Jules Spaccarotella in the fifth heat.

Hood is scheduled to compete in the tenth heat of the third round. Malaysian surfer Afiq Haikal bin Muhamad Nor Azizi will also participate in this heat, which will include the winners of the seventh and eighth heats from the second round.

Among the three surfers competing from Team Thulusdhoo in this round, Ahmed Hisham Shaheem won second place in his second round heat with 8.66 points, rising past Chinese surfer Zeyuang Zeng and Singaporean surfer, Aniq Kailani Bin Rahmat. The winner of this heat was Sri Lanka's Kavindu Tharaka with 11.60 points.

However, since this year's Asian Surfing Championship serves as a qualifier for the Japan 2026 Asian Games, Team Thulusdhoo surfers will only compete in the first round.

Ismail Rasheed (Smiley) competed in the second heat of the first round, scoring 9.27 points. The heat was won by Thai athlete Natthakron Sae-lew with 12.13 points. Second place went to XengXeng Wang from China, who scored 10.47 points, while Bangladeshi surfer Mohamed Mannan secured third place with 7.73 points.

Hussain Nasih (Chika) placed third in the heats held this morning, scoring 5.97 points. Sri Lankan surfer Lesitha Prabath claimed victory with 9.23 points, while Chinese surfer Xiao Wu finished second with 8.83 points. Singapore's Jules Spaccarotella secured fourth place with a total of 5.53 points.
