National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that more than MVR 90,000 has been spent so far to help the victims of the fire that broke out in the city on Thursday, November 10.

In the fire that broke out at Maafannu Senrose, 10 people were killed and several others were injured. People living in the two houses and others in the area have been evacuated to temporary shelters.

NDMA said 29 people, including 15 locals and 14 foreigners, are being provided with temporary shelter in guesthouses. Guardians of another 19 foreigners who were displaced in the incident have provided them shelter, according to NDMA.

NDMA said they have spent MVR 33,500 on housing, MVR 19,000 on clothes, MVR 29,000 on food and drink, totaling to more than MVR 90,000 spent so far. Victims are currently receiving psychological treatment and additional assistance will be provided to them, according to NDMA.

Thursday's incident is reported as the most deadly fire in Male' city till date with 10 confirmed deaths, and significant property damage. While 10 foreigners were killed in the incident, the building was used as an accommodation block by foreign workers in Male', and workers from Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh resided there.
