President submits Ambassadors to China, Bangladesh for parliament approval

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent two names for parliamentary approval to be appointed to the post of Maldivian Ambassadors to China and Bangladesh.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent two names for parliamentary approval to be appointed to the post of Maldivian Ambassadors to China and Bangladesh.

The President has proposed Dr Fazeel Najeeb to take up the post of Maldivian Ambassador to China. Dr Fazeel has previously served as the Governor of MMA, as well as as State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is an economist who spent many years of his initial career in serving in various posts in the Trade Ministry.

Shiuneen Rasheed.

For the post of Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh, the President has proposed Shiuneen Rasheed. Shiuneen serves as the Joint Secretary at the Foreign Ministry. Her name was previously proposed for the same position near the end of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's term in office, however the parliament decided at the time that ambassadors cannot be appointed at the end of a presidential term.

Speaker of Parliament has forwarded these two names to the Committee on Foreign Relations for further review.

So far, all Ambassador nominations by President Dr Muizzu remain pending at committee stage in Parliament. The submitted names besides Dr Fazeel and Shiuneen are;

1. UAE - Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu)

2. UK - Iruthisham Adam

3. UN - Ali Naseer Mohamed (Alini)

4. Sri Lanka - Masood Imad

5. Malaysia - Mariyam Shabina Ahmed

6. Belgium and EU - Geela Ali

7. Singapore - Mohamed Luwaiz

8. Geneva - Dr Salma Rasheed
