The President's Office today opened applications for the post of Prosecutor General of the Maldives.
The post of Prosecutor General (PG) is currently vacant after former PG Hussain Shameem resigned amid a parliamentary move to remove him from office.
Applications for the position will be accepted until 12:00 hrs on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
According to the President's Office, candidates must hold a first degree in law and have at least four years of experience in the field.
The Prosecutor General will be appointed by Parliament from the list of candidates recommended by the President.
Shameem submitted his resignation during a parliamentary session that was set to vote on his removal. However, Parliament proceeded with his removal, citing that they had not officially received his resignation letter.
According to the Prosecutor General's Act, a replacement must be appointed within 30 days of the vacancy. Until then, the Deputy Prosecutor General will oversee the Prosecutor's Office.
