Maldives has won the World's Leading Destination title four years in a row.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the national tourism board of the country, reports that Maldives won the title of World's Leading Destination for the fourth consecutive time at the World Travel Awards 2023, held at Dubai's Burj Al-Arab, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
MMPRC further highlighted that Maldives secured the win for the fourth time amidst fierce competition by 17 global tourism destinations which included Dubai, Indonesia, New Zealand, Spain, and Vietnam among others.
The tourism board also noted that this win is a "testament to the Maldives' exceptional standing in the global tourism landscape and the enduring appeal" and solidifies the country's consistent excellence and "unmatched charm" that distinguishes Maldives as a top destination in the world. MMPRC further said that the fourth consecutive win is a reaffirmation of the Maldives' commitment in delivering "unparalleled experiences".
Besides the World's Leading Destination accolade, MMPRC was bestowed with the World's Leading Tourist Board 2023 title at the WTA, marking it the second time the tourist board has won the accolade.
Additionally, Maldives was also nominated for the following awards;

- World's Leading Dive Destination 2023
- World's Leading Honeymoon Destination 2023
- World's Leading Island Destination 2023
- World's Most Romantic Destination
MMPRC highlighted that 2023 was a stand out year for the Maldives, with a total of 348 promotional activities undertaken by November 23, 2023 with an accumulated total reach of over 4,534,603,078.
Established first in 1993, the World Travel Awards, is the most prestigious honors program in the global travel and tourism industry recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.
While the annual arrival total to the Maldives has exceeded 1.6 million so far in 2023, the government aims to attract 1.8 million arrivals by the current year's end.
