Special website for maritime services launched

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has launched a dedicated website for maritime services to be provided in the north of Maldives, Uthuru Maritime Services (UMS) website today.

This website, which is named after MPL's services due to commence in the north, serves to share information about the company's upcoming maritime services in the region. Information on agents providing services and available services will also be available to the international market through this website.

The launch event of the website was held at MPL's head office today, where CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim said that the website will provide information on the maritime services available from the northern region. He also added that while MPL is entrusted by the government to start maritime services in Maldives, the company will work with different companies to provide services such as bunkering.

"When we start maritime services with bunkering, we will provide services such as maintenance, oil replacement and other services for vessels that come for bunkering or other purposes. We will also work with various agencies to provide water and waste management services," he explained.

He also said that the company will work to provide maritime services in a holistic manner.

State Trading Organisation (STO)'s Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim also spoke at the ceremony, adding that they are working to start fuel bunkering services by mid September, and that this service would increase foreign currency revenue into the country.

Shimad said while STO is preparing to provide fuel bunkering services in collaboration with MPL, they will also try to provide additional services to the vessels that stop by. Providing these services on a wide scale would further develop the sector, he said MPL is currently working to launch international fuel bunkering services, speed boats, pilotage, water bunkering, crew change and maintenance services up north of the country.
