Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology and its initiative 'Code Club Maldives' are participating in the globally celebrated week-long 'Hour of Code'.
According to the campaign 'Hour of Code', the purpose of the 'Computer Science Education Week' is to provide children aged 8 - 12, with a one-hour introduction to computer science and to broaden participation in the field. The week is celebrated from December 9 to 15 in 2019. Over 180 countries have registered a total of 126,130 activities in 2019 alone.
As per the Ministry, this event marks the first national recognition of the cause, stating aims to expose at least 100 children into the world of computer science through the sessions. They revealed further plans to roll out events across the entire country in 2020.
The Ministry expressed the importance of providing every young child with the opportunity to learn how to code.
Code Club Maldives was initiated with the aim to spearhead formulation of 'Code Clubs' across every island and school with the assistance of volunteers, educational facilities and parents.
