Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has condemned the encouragement of violence, stating that it is unacceptable and contrary to the principles of freedom of expression.
The statement came following remarks by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail at a press conference, defending comments made by a party activist during an MDP meeting in Kulhudhuffushi City. Addressing criticism, Fayyaz stated, "If the public are dealt with poorly, Ameen's fate must be replicated."

Statements that incite hatred or violence are against the true essence of freedom of expression, the commission said.
Expressing concern over such rhetoric from political parties, HRCM called on all parties to prioritize the public interest and avoid actions or statements that promote hatred or violence.
