RDC's current management has revealed news of transactions involving millions which were made by the company's former management.
The former management of Road Development Corporation (RDC) transferred MVR 161 million from the company's funds to various parties without proper documentation, the company revealed today.
Speaking at the Parliament's State Owned Enterprises Committee today, RDC's Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Asbah Ali Naseer said that in 2022, MVR 66 million and in 2023, MVR 95 million was transferred from the company to various parties, and that these transactions lack supporting documentation.
He went on to reveal that the payments were made via internet banking transfers and that there are no corresponding invoices or details regarding these payments.
"[We] do not know for what goods or services these payments were made," Asbah said.
Asbah further revealed that the Finance Ministry issued MVR 90 million to the company in November 2023. However, by the time the new administration took over in mid-November, the company had only MVR 4 million remaining.
Despite efforts, they have not been able to bill this MVR 90 million, he said, and accused that this was an effort by the former management to pay certain companies from within the system.
The matter is now under investigation by Maldives Police Service as well as the Anti Corruption Commission, he said. Additionally, the Auditor General's Office is also conducting special audits concerning the company as well.
Asbah said employees suspected to have been involved in these discrepancies have been transferred to other departments, and that necessary action will follow.
