Bank of Maldives has launched "Fehi Project" with the aim of planting 50,000 trees every year across the country. The bank stated that the project will be carried out for a period of five years.

The event is scheduled to be held as part of BML's 12 important events launched for the benefit of the community, leading up to the 40th anniversary of the bank which is celebrated in November.

Under the project, five islands will be selected every year, and 10,000 trees will be donated to each island. BML said that the Fehi Project will bring greenery to islands and benefit the community.

In this regard, replanting trees will bring about a positive change in the environment due to the prevention of erosion, lower surface and air temperature and the reduction in the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere.

CEO and Managing Director of BML Tim Sawyer said that the Project, will help aid planting efforts, reduce carbon footprint and make residential areas across the country greener.

"We will work with island councils to help local nurseries and bring about significant positive changes in islands and communities," he said.

Applications for the BML Fehi Project have been opened for island councils and city councils. Applications are open until July 20.
