Bank of Maldives (BML) provided reusable water bottles to each household of Feydhoo island in Shaviyani Atoll, under their 'Aharange Bank' Community Fund.
According to BML,1000 bottles were distributed to officially launch this project.
This project aims to reduce the number of single-use plastic used throughout the island.
"Funding projects that intend to protect the environment and environmentally friendly initiates are a priority for us," said BML's Public Relations Manager Mohamed Saeed.
"We hope that this initiative under BML's Community Fund is successful, and this island becomes exemplary to other islands, in protecting the environment and reviving environmentally friendly initiatives."
The 'Aharenge Bank' fund selects proposals sent by individuals that improve the community spirit, promote sustainability and provide social opportunities.
They then allocate MVR 50,000 to five projects in the areas of education, environment, sports and community development during each quarter of the fiscal year.
This is the first project chosen by the Bank in the e second quarter of the Community Fund.
