Criminal Court sentenced Adhuham Mohamed, the confessed murderer of taxi driver Gasim Hassan, to a year and 12 days of imprisonment over his previous charges.
He was found guilty of stealing a motorbike in 2016 and was sentenced after confessing to his crime. Although he had an accomplice, the person in question was acquitted citing lack of evidence.
According to Maldives Police Service, Adhuham was arrested in December following the murder of a taxi driver on December 4. Gasim, aged 59, was taken to Hulhumale' Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was reportedly stabbed in the neck and arm during a mugging incident gone wrong.
Adhuham, who confessed to the murder during the police investigation, holds a record of theft and substance abuse.
However, no official charges were filed against Adhuham for the murder. Police are still investigating the matter.
