Qatar has agreed to host the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup after China decided not to host due to Covid-19 circumstances. The 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup is to be held from 16th June to 16th July 2023.
Following China's withdrawal, Korea and Indonesia expressed interest in serving as the hosts, but the AFC ultimately chose Qatar. Presumably, with the country’s preparations for World Cup 2022, the tournament will be held without further hassle. Qatar, an oil-rich nation, previously hosted the AFC Cup in 1988 and 2011.
However, the AFC has not yet decided on the dates of the tournament to be held in Qatar.
India and Saudi Arabia have been chosen by the AFC as the tournament's shortlisted hosts for 2027. The host nation for 2027's tournament will be selected next year. Both nations have never before hosted the tournament.
Presently, the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup is being held in India. India has held FIFA U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017. India, better known in sports as a top-ranked cricket-playing country, is showing growing interest in football. Because of the diverse population in India, FIFA is also aiding India to spread the game of football across the nation.
Saudi Arabia has hosted European tournaments on their soil. This year’s Spanish Super Cup was held in the nation. The same tournament will again be hosted in 2023 followed by the Italian Super Cup.
