President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih founded Asset Recovery Commission, has officially been abolished.
The decision was confirmed on Thursday, 17th March, while the President's Office confirmed all the ongoing operations of the commission have been transferred to them.
Furthermore, the commission was abolished after new members to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) were appointed on the same day.
President's Office addressed that the commission, which was formulated to probe illicit use of state funds, had not been performing to acceptable standards.
Meanwhile, the commission had become the subject of public scrutiny and criticism for its shortcomings to perform the duties.
Earlier, the state had moved with the decision to abolish the commission back in April 2021, which was then pushed back to 15th December of the same year.
The Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery was formed on 17th November 2018, immediately after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took official oath of the office.
The commission aimed to recover state funds and assets that were either misused or embezzled by state bodies and individuals between 01st January 2012 and 17th November 2018.
Meanwhile, the commission had successfully concluded and forwarded a total of only eight cases to the Attorney General's Office for prosecution.
