The state, on Wednesday, hired Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) member Fareesha Abdulla as the commission’s President.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed her to the position via an amendment to the 2018 DDCom resolution published in the gazette.
As per the resolution, DDCom is granted all the powers extended to investigative bodies, and will continue serving its mandate till the President decides that it has completed its tasks.
DDCom was established shortly after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was sworn into office, as an initiative to fulfilling his electoral pledge of ensuring justice for several high-profile cases of unsolved murders and enforced disappearances.
However, the commission has been under fire for its failure to generate satisfactory results within the past two years.
