Aviation needs to be strengthened for tourism development: Minister

Minister Ameen said that the congress provides the opportunity to enhance existing airline networks and forge relationships with new carriers. He said that the discussions could lead to expanding the number of flights and routes with current partners as well.

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen said yesterday that the Maldives' tourism sector must be strengthened and expanded to benefit more people.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Air Service World Congress, attended by stakeholders from the aviation and tourism sectors, Minister Ameen highlighted numerous opportunities to expand aviation services in the Maldives.

"We are ready to collaborate with companies in the sector to establish a world-class aviation network with various innovations," Minister Ameen said.

He said that the congress presents an opportunity to enhance existing airline networks and forge relationships with new carriers. Minister Ameen said that the discussions could lead to expanding the number of flights and routes with current partners.

Ameen added that the congress facilitates identifying new opportunities for airlines, tour operators, and tourism authorities to expand air transport services.

He highlighted the important role of such discussions in industry development and encouraged participants to fully capitalize on the opportunities presented at the congress.

This marks the first time the Air Service World Congress is being held in Southeast Asia region and the Maldives. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), a partner in the event, views hosting the congress as a significant boost for the tourism and aviation sectors.
