The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has confirmed that the deceased individual discovered floating in the ocean was the same person who jumped into the water outside of Rasfannu artificial beach.
On Thursday morning, October 19, around 9:00 a.m., the body was discovered floating in the channel between Kaafu atoll Funadhoo and Dhoonidhoo.
Images circulating on social media showed the victim naked and floating backside up. However, any signs of bruising or contusion were not identifiable.
MNDF reported the jumping incident at 7:54 p.m. on Wednesday evening, October 18.
The authority also reported that its Coastguard's second squadron divers had covered an area of 41,590 square-meters underwater near rasfannu to search for the individual.
MNDF said the individual was later discovered by crew members of a Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) ferry.
The deceased has since been brought to Malé City.
