French ambassador to Maldives passes away

The Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Jean-François Pactet has passed away yesterday afternoon. Sri Lankan media reports a cardiac arrest to be the cause of his untimely death.

The Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Jean-François Pactet has passed away yesterday afternoon.

Sri Lankan media outlets report that the 53 year old Pactet was found dead in his official residence in Rajagiriya, Sri Lanka. They report that he passed away due to a sudden illness and further suspect a cardiac arrest to be the cause of death.

The Welikada Police in Colombo are set to probe further into the incident and conduct a post-mortem examination as well.

Pactet was appointed as Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka and Maldives in October 2022. He had experience in senior positions such as the Deputy Director of Culture and Education in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Maldives' Minister for Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer posted on social platform, X that he was deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news of Pactet's untimely passing. Zameer shared that Pactet was a good friend of the country and assured he will be remembered for his efforts to sustain a close relationship between Maldives and France.

He also sent his condolences to Pactet's family as well as the team at the French Embassy.
