State Trading Organisation (STO)'s Smart Store located in Hulhumale' Phase one has begun providing 24 hour services.
The store was previously open until 22:00 hrs every day.
An official of STO said that the Smart Store was initially opened with the idea of expanding it to provide services 24 hours, seven days a week. However, due to the Smart Store featuring completely new technology in the Maldives, being the first-ever autonomous store opened in the country, round-the-clock service provision was delayed to observe and improve the service.

The official added that the Smart Store is now open 24 hours at the request of many customers.
The STO Smart Store incorporates artificial intelligence and IoT sensors, as well as data science. The store can be accessed by downloading the store's special application "STO Smart Shop" and completing the registration process. Card details also need to be added during registration.
Customers can enter the store by scanning the QR code available on the apps home screen and through face recognition. As items are removed from the Smart Store's shelves, they will be automatically added to the cart on the app.
