Addu City Council has reported an increase in property damage due to the ongoing heavy rain in the City.
According to Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar, the highest incidents of property damage over the last three days were reported in Feydhoo and Hithadhoo.
Mayor Nizar said 58 residences from Feydhoo and seven residences from Hithadhoo sustained severe damages during the heavy rain. Additionally, 128 residences from Feydhoo and 28 residences from Hithadhoo, and five residences from Maradhoo experienced flooding. Seenu Atoll Education Center in Hulhudhoo is the only property to experience flooding from the island.
The Mayor also noted that the council has been following the guidelines and reporting the damage to the National Disaster Management Center.
"The council has arranged temporary shelter for people in the affected residences and is assisting in the reconstruction of damaged roofs. The damaged properties will receive compensation from the National Disaster Management Center," said Mayor Nizar.
“Besides the council, we have received the support of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), Maldives Police, and Afcons as well.”
Afcons Infrastructure, which is currently constructing the Thilamalé Bridge, is also responsible for road development in Addu City.
