Naifaru MP and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s Vice President Ahmed Shiyam, on Sunday, declared that the progress of development by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government is not up to expected speeds.
Shiyam told local media Mihaaru that the government that came into power with such high expectations is underperforming.
He declared that the citizens are upset with the rising cost of living. Shiyam proclaimed that costs have risen beyond reach and that there are numerous complaints of electricity bills being too high.
“Commissions and committees being formed in the name of development is increasing the state’s expenditure while nothing is being done for the people”, he said.
He declared that former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom was a prime example of bringing forth advancements and that citizens are unhappy with the slow pace of current development.
“It is concerning that the government is doing nothing towards progress”.
The Naifaru MP expressed that progress is being slowed due to the government being run by a coalition of parties, and therefore decisions require approval from more individuals than the previous governments.
He further stated that the benefits of Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid travelling under the state’s expense must be made public, claiming that the government must have surpassed the budget allocated for the minister’s travels.
The Foreign Ministry previously affirmed that over MVR 1 billion was secured for Maldives from Minister Shahid’s official travels. In regards to the information, Shiyam insisted that the people should be informed of how the benefits are being utilised.
