US cable news channel CNN has listed luxury resort Soneva Jani as the top new hotel to visit in the world in 2017.
Soneva Jani, developed in Medhufaru island in Noonu atoll, was officially unveiled last October.
Boasting 24 water villas and a single large villa inland, Soneva Jani is one of the largest resorts in the Maldives.
The most remarkable feature of the resort is the incredible privacy it provides its guests with fewer number of rooms and larger than average expanses separating the villas. Soneva Jani is currently the resort with the fewest number of rooms compared to land area in the world.
CNN also noted that Soneva Jani boasts an observatory with the largest telescope in the Indian Ocean and an outdoor cinema, thus becoming the first resort in the archipelago to have a silent cinema.
Soneva Group’s CEO Sonu Shivdasani, who introduced first class tourism in the Maldives, also manages another property in the archipelago, Soneva Fushi in Baa atoll, which was opened in 1995.
Following Soneva Jani on CNN’s list of “15 hot new hotels to check out in 2017” are Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai in Vietnam and Las Alcobas in California. CNN has also listed Soneva Jani as the eighth most beautiful island hotel in the world.
