President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, appointed former Deputy Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Zahira Hassan as the Chairperson of Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA).
As per a statement publicised by CMDA, she was chosen for the position with the counsel of ministers, under the Maldivian Securities Act.
President Solih appointed Zahira to CMDA's board after removing Ahmed Mazin, who had filled the position since 2017.
Prior to this appointment, Zahira served for 31 in years in central bank MMA, holding the Deputy Governor post for 12 of those years.
CMDA's board is now arranged as follows:
- Chairperson: Aishath Zahira
- Senior Executive Director, Maldives Monetary Authority: Aishath Naadiya
- Senior Executive Director, Secretary General/ Privatization and Corporatisation Board, Finance Ministry: Ahmed Siraj
- Registrar of Companies: Mariyam Wisam
- Private Sector representative: Fathimath Shafneez
- Private Sector representative: Rifaa'ath Jaleel
The board's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) seat is currently vacant, after Nadiya Hassan who had formerly filled the position, resigned in 2019.
