A child has been caught under a collapsing wall and sustained injuries in Thaa atoll Kandoodhoo island today.

The injured child is a 10 year old boy.

A Kandoodhoo Council Member said that the child had been caught under the wall as it collapsed today while he had been outside with friends.

The children accompanying him pulled him out of the rubble of the collapsed wall. They then took him to a nearby house. After this, he was transferred later to the Health Centre, the Council said.

"They say that he was caught under the wall from his waist down. As those at the scene are also children, we do not have a clear account of events. The wall is a boundary wall of a residence. It's an old wall made of bricks. It was about six feet tall," the Council Member said.

The child is currently receiving in-patient treatment at the island's Health Centre. Extensive swelling is observed on one ankle, and there are multiple cuts and scrapes on his body.

Efforts are ongoing to transfer him to a hospital in a nearby island to investigate whether any internal injuries were sustained in the accident.

"He is conscious. He speaks and communicates. But we do not know yet whether there are any internal injuries," the Council Member said.
