Club Valencia has been suspended after Football Association of Maldives (FAM) President Bassam Adeel Jaleel's numerous attempts to regain control of the club proved unsuccessful.
The recently established Disciplinary Committee of the FAM initially looked into Valencia's case, which was brought before the committee by Hussain Waheed (Dhona), a close associate of Bassam and former board member of Valencia.
In the case, Waheed stated that Club Valencia has been suspended until the club's Executive Committee is elected in coordination with the FAM.
"In reference to Article 59 of the Disciplinary Code of FAM, Article 61 has been invoked in this case. Club Valencia has been suspended from all football activities until the club's AGM is held, and the Executive Committee of the club is lawfully elected in accordance with the club's governing regulation, FAM regulations, as well as the electoral code," read the notice signed by the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Ali Shah.
Ever since Club Valencia decided to endorse Ahmed Thoriq, who contested against Bassam's associate Mufawiz Hashim during the recently attempted election on January 31, FAM has made various attempts to assume control of the club.
Club Valencia said in a statement that the club believes it has been suspended because [they] anticipate the club will not support Bassam in the upcoming election scheduled for April 20.
