Mohamed Saeed, a diver who went missing at the Tiger Shark dive point in Fuvahmulah in May 2022, was posthumously honored for his contributions to the tourism sector at the Fuvahmulah Tourism Awards 2024.
His daughter accepted the award on his behalf during a ceremony held at the Fuvahmulah City Council last night.
The awards recognized guesthouse businesses, dive center operators, and individuals who have contributed to tourism in Fuvahmulah, in celebration of the 10th anniversary since local tourism had begun on the island.
Saeed, a father of three, went missing while diving, and despite extensive sea and air searches conducted by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), only his fishing gear was found at a depth of 59 meters.
In addition to honoring those who contributed to Fuvahmulah’s tourism sector, the event also awarded winners of an underwater photography competition held at Fuvahmulah.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal, Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar, Male' City Mayor Adam Azim, and members of the Huvadhoo Council.
