Maldives and China have begun implementing the visa-free agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to obtain on-arrival visas.
The “Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the People’s Republic of China” was signed in January 2022, but the agreement did not come into force due to the measures taken in China due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The on-arrival visa agreement is now in full effect, the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives announced in a tweet on Friday.
Under the agreement, Maldivians will also be issued a 30-day on-arrival visa from China.
The 30-day visa is available for tourism purposes. Those engaging in work or business, as well as reporters, are still required to obtain a visa in advance.
