The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has brought changes to how over time pay is given to staff entitled for getting Special Duty Allowance.

CSC said that to date, employees who receive the Special Duty Allowance have been given over time pay if they work over 44 hours in a month.

However, with the newly introduced changes, all hours worked beyond official hours will be remunerated under over time pay.

Special Duty Allowance is an allowance granted to all employees who have not been transferred to the new pay structure.

This allowance was previously given to staff working in separate ministries. However, near the end of the previous administration, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih affected a change where this allowance became applicable to all civil service staff who were not included in the newly reformed pay framework.

With the change that Solih brought, employees working in the health sector, education sector, administrative staff and several other sectors are also eligible for this allowance.

"This change was brought as we identified it is against the law to deduct over time pay in relation to the Special Duty Allowance," the commission stated.
