Cases of employer political coercion will be investigated: Labour

Labour Relations Authority of Maldives has stated that action will be taken following a formal investigation, should any employee report being influenced or coerced to take part in or conduct, any politically motivated work.

Labour Relations Authority's Information Officer Ali Shareef urged all civil servants and employees at public companies to come forth if they feel that they are being coerced to do any work that violates the Employment Act.

According to the Employment Act, it is illegal for employers to coerce employees to work for any political party, in the interest of any political agendas or to ask employees to do political work during the formal working hours.
