Employees of government agencies have been issued their Ramadan allowance alongside their salary of this month.

While the month of Ramadan is estimated to begin on the 11th of next month, the Ramadan allowance has been delivered to state employees with their stipend of February.

The Law of Employment mandates employees to be issued an amount no less than MVR 3,000 as their Ramadan Allowance before the first day of Ramadan. If the allowance is not issued, a complaint can be lodged at the Labor Relations Authority (LRA).

The government has also provided civil servants and employees of independent institutions with their Ramadan allowance as well.

The government expresses concerns that the Employment Law mandating all independent institutions in addition to state facilities to issue the allowance prior to the first day of Ramadan is often not abided by some offices.
