Prosecutor General's (PG) Office has appealed the case against the 75-year-old man who had reportedly molested four sisters, to the High Court.

PG appealed the case after Thinadhoo Magistrate Court annulled the case on August 6, stating that the Magistrate Court's decision was against the Criminal Procedure Code.

The 75-year-old man is accused of molesting four sisters hailing from an island in Gaafu Dhaal Atoll, and committing adultery with their mother.

The Magistrate Court had annulled the case due to the period of appeal expiring.

The Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office had forwarded the charges to Thinadhoo Magistrate Court in the month of July. Previously, the case was undertaken by the magistrate court on the island of the incident in February.

No hearings have been conducted regarding the case.

The mother and stepfather were charged with parental negligence as the four girls were all minors during the period of abuse. They are also being indicted for knowingly covering up the sexual abuse of their children. The mother faces additional charges for being an accessory to the crime, and adultery, but these cases have now been annulled.

The elderly man was supposedly a respected businessman in the island

According to the eldest sister whom he allegedly molested, he had begun abusing the children some 12-years ago. There were more children that he molested during this time, she claimed.
