A member of the public has submitted a request to the National Security Committe of the Parliament seeking the full report on the May 6, 2021 terrorist attack on Parliament Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed.

In today's National Security Committee meeting, Chairperson Hithadhoo North MP Mohamed Aslam shared that in accordance with the Right to Information (RTI) Act, a member of the public had submitted an RTI form to the parliament seeking the complete report prepared by the committee on the attack on Nasheed.

The committee has previously, in July 2021, made public a redacted version of the report.

Aslam declared the committee needs to hold discussions on sharing the information kept confidential before reaching a decision on whether or not to release the report in its entirety.

"I’m going to put this matter on the agenda for Monday’s meeting so that we can review the points kept secret in the report again and come to a decision": Aslam

"I’m going to put this matter on the agenda for Monday’s meeting," Aslam said, adding "we will have a closed meeting to review the confidential information and then decide on the matter."

Hanimadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa said that the decision to redact some parts of the report had been reached unanimously by the committee, and that he therefore objected to making it public now.

Eight individuals have been charged in connection with the May 6 attacks on former President Nasheed. Among them, Adhuham Ahmed, who played an active role in the bombing attack, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison. Court cases for the remaining seven individuals are still ongoing.
