Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the 230th COVID fatality in Maldives on Friday.

The agency said a 46 year old Maldivian woman admitted in Hulhumale’ Medical Facility (HMF) had passed away at 3:02 am on Friday.

This is the fourth COVID death of September.

An 87 year old man had passed away in HMF on the previous Friday, while an 89 year old man admitted in Gaafu Dhaalu COVID Management Facility had passed away on September 16. They were both Maldivians.

There has been a steady drop in the COVID fatalities and daily COVID positives in Maldives for a couple of months now. A total of four COVID deaths were recorded in August. This is in contrast to the huge surge in number Maldives saw earlier this year towards the end of April, following the Local Council Election.

Over 333,000 people are fully vaccinated in Maldives. As of September 22, 391,309 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

However HPA has said the common cold and the flu has been spreading in Maldives at the moment.
