Maldives to halt entrants from Bangladesh

The government on Monday, announced the decision to halt all direct and transit flights from Bangladesh over the recent confirmed case of COVID-19 in Bangladesh.

According to the circular released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the ban will be effective from Tuesday till March 24. CAA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hussain Jaleel, noted that relevant airlines have been informed over the decision.

Three positive cases in Bangladesh were identified this Sunday, when an infected Italian holidayed in the country.

Maldives announced its first confirmed cases of COVID-19 late Saturday, after two foreign employes at the Kuredu Resort and Spa tested positive for the virus. The resort was quarantined earlier the same day, after an Italian guest who holidayed on the island tested positive following their return to Italy.

Additionally, two of the three suspected cases from Sandies Bathala Resort, Alif Alif Atoll, tested positive for the virus on Sunday.

The two resorts, Kuredu and Bathalaa are both under quarantine.
