The Ministry of Tourism on Monday opened bid applications for the development of a tourist hotel with a yacht marina in Uligan, Haa Alif Atoll.

The government has allocated a land plot of 36 hectares for the project.

Eligible investors, local or foreign, are invited to attend the information session at the ministry at 1300 hrs on October 22, and submit their bid proposals by 1000 hrs on November 5.

The application form to purchase the Bid Document can be downloaded on the tourism ministry's website, www.tourism.gov.mv.

The Bid Document will also be available at the ministry's reception from October 11 onwards between 0900 – 1300 hrs, except on government holidays.

Previously, the government awarded the project to develop a city hotel and yacht marina in Uligan to Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).

However, the project was halted due to various reasons. At the time, around USD 4.5 million (MVR 69.4 million) was expended to complete 80 percent of the hotel's staff area, as well as much of the guest spaces.

Uligan in the northernmost atoll is the most popular destination for yachts in Maldives.

To establish a yacht marina, a longstanding dream of Uligan residents, was one of the electoral pledges of incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
