Maagiri Hotel on Monday announced that it had completely disinfected their premises and resumed operations after sanctions to temporarily place the hotel under lockdown were lifted over COVID-19.

An Italian tourist who later tested positive for the virus had stayed at Maagiri for two days earlier this month. Last Tuesday, the luxury hotel temporary closed down to disinfect its 51-rooms and premises.

The tourist, who was vacationing at Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, stayed in Maagiri Hotel on March 1 and 2 after being unable to depart for Italy as initially planned. He tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in his home country and informed the resort management.

Maldives announced a state of public health emergency last Thursday, under which the government has implemented several measures. This includes travel restrictions to and from resorts and banning guesthouses and hotels in the Greater Male' region from accepting more tourist bookings for a period of 14 days.

Maldives also banned entry from Spain and parts of Germany and France, in addition to China, Italy, Iran, Bangladesh and four regions of South Korea.

Currently there are 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Maldives. No locals have tested positive for the virus as of yet.
