Maagiri Hotel, where an Italian tourist who later tested positive for COVID-19 had stayed for two days, announced a temporary closedown on Tuesday for disinfection purposes.
In a notice, the 52-room luxury hotel located in capital Male' stated that the entire property will undergo disinfection for the safety of its guests, employees and customers.
Maagiri Hotel will reopen after the incubation period next Monday.
The Italian tourist, who was vacationing at Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, stayed in Maagiri Hotel on March 1 and 2 after being unable to depart for Italy as initially planned. He tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in his home country and informed the resort management.
Kuredu is currently under lockdown and four foreign individuals on the island have tested positive for COVID-19. Maldivian authorities have also quarantined 15 staff of Maagiri Hotel who came into contact with the patient.
Presently, there are six confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Maldives, including the four at Kuredu and two more foreign individuals at Sandies Bathala resort.
